WHAT IS THE CUCUMBER HARVEST SEASON?
Typically, late July through early September.
WHEN DO YOU PICK?
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. To buy them the same day they are picked, you will have to come to the farm. (See above for hours and directions.)
HOW LONG AFTER PICKING ARE THEY STILL GOOD FOR CANNING?
3-4 days after picking if kept under refrigeration. We pick in the cool of the morning, wash and sort, and then move them to the cooler for storage until pickup. The longer you wait, the less crunchy they will be, but I have had great luck with 3-day old cukes.
POUNDS OF CUKES NEEDED PER QUART:
It takes about 1 pound of cucumbers to fill a quart jar regardless of size, if kept whole.
WHAT SIZE SHOULD I ORDER?
Mini-Great for gherkins and dills in pints or quarts. Small size allows for most efficient jar pack.
Small- Ideal for whole dills in pints or quarts. TIP: A mix of small and mini ensures an efficient jar pack.
Medium-Best suited for spears, chips, or can be left whole in a gallon jar or crock. The length and girth only allow for a single layer in a quart jar.
Large-Best suited for spears, chips, or can be left whole in a crock.
HOW MUCH DILL DO I NEED?
1 bunch of dill has at least 20 heads. Typical recipes call for 2 heads per jar. 1 bunch per 10 lbs is a safe bet.
DO YOU SHIP?
Sorry, we cannot ship these babies. The cost of packing and shipping via UPS, Fed ex, and the good old US Postal service is prohibitively expensive and we could not guarantee freshness. Your best bet is to go to your local farmers market and ask all the farmers about who grows them near you and when they are in season. Good luck!
