CSA Newsletter - Summer - Week 18
THIS IS THE LAST WEEK FOR THE SUMMER CSA
Thank you all so much for joining our CSA this season. We hope you have enjoyed your weekly boxes. We really appreciate your support and partnership!
2023 CSA: We will send out an invitation to join the 2023 CSA sometime in late January. We are cutting back a little next year, so don’t delay in signing up. We will open registration to 2022 members before offering shares to the public at large.
FALL SHARES: The fall share starts next weekend (the 29th/30th). We only deliver on Saturdays and Sundays, so if you have usually been picking up on Wednesday or Thursday, check your account to see what weekend day you signed up for. The fall share is now full.
BOX RETURN:
Wednesday folks: If you have some of our boxes at your house, please return to your pickup site by next Tuesday. We will come around next Wednesday to pick them up.
Market folks: You can drop them off any day the market is open.
Farm Folks, stop by any time and drop them off in the barn.
WHAT’S IN THE BOX:
Carrots-orange and purple
onions
garlic
pie pumpkin
spaghetti squash
arugula
leeks
chard or beets
potatoes- huckleberry gold
ELABORATIONS:
Pie pumpkin: These are a cool variety that have “hull-less” seeds, meaning the seeds do not have the tougher outer shell. When you prepare your pumpkin for cooking, scoop out the seeds and rinse off the goo. Pat dry and toss with a small amount of olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and bake in the oven at 400 for about 10 minutes. Keep an eye on them so they don’t burn.
Arugula: This lovely green as a peppery, nutty flavor. Not only does it make a great addition to salads, it adds a fresh and interesting twist when sprinkled atop savory dishes upon serving. We put it on pizza, casseroles, baked squash, etc. It is better raw than cooked, so add it after plating.
Thank you again for being part of our CSA and have a great winter!
